The Shrine of Remembrance

The Shrine of Remembrance located in the Kings Domain on St Kilda road, Melbourne, was originally built in memory of the lives lost during the First World War (1914 –18). Today it is one of the largest war memorials in Australia attracting more than 85,000 people at the Anzac Day dawn service in 2015.

In the last decade it has undergone major renovations with new visitor centre staff offices, lifts and two new courtyards being added in 2003 and a further two courtyards, the Galleries of Remembrance and the Education Centre being added as stage 2 in 2014.

Mirotone worked with ARM Architecture to ensure that the right coating systems were specified for the project. One of the images below shows the 137 seat Shrine Auditorium in the Education Centre coated in MIROSTAIN 2616 Pigmented stain in Speedy Red, the stain helps to achieve the striking red effect that is designed to represent the red of the Flanders Fields poppies. The second photo shows the same vivid red on the wall and ceiling panels of the Education Centre. Top coating the stain with MIROTHANE PU 5577 Sun-Shield in a satin finish ensures that the bright red paneling will stay vibrant for years to come, with the UV absorbers in the coating providing extra protection.
